Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $33,723)

The Waukegan Police Department proposes the use of the awarded funds to acquire necessary equipment for officer safety in response to major events and everyday patrol functions, improve training facilities, and assist in crime prevention and investigations.  Program purchases will increase officer safety, update training room equipment to assist in meeting mandated training requirements, and provide technological upgrades to assist in investigations and overall crime prevention.  Program purchases will also increase citizen and officer safety during crash investigations and assist in rescue efforst by haveing life-saving equipment easily deployable from patrol vehicles to a waterborne crisis.  Expected outcomes will be a reduction in officer and citizen injuries, increased solvability of crimes, properly equipped officers in multi-jurisdictional major event teams, and a much improved training experience.  The intended beneficiaries are the Waukegan Police Department officers, officers from surrounding agencies, and the citizens of the City of Waukegan.  Subrecipient activies include community education and outreach, vehicle radar and lock boxes, and professional community and press material.
