Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $35,519)

Under the 2024 JAG funding initiative, the residents of Racine County will enhance public safety and to increase local law enforcement preparedness. Under this effort, The Racine County Sheriff’s Office will assign one full-time Deputy Sheriff to Court House, Law Enforcement Center, and Taylor Avenue security and security functions.  All serious criminals arrested in Racine County are housed in the Racine County Jail and taken to courtrooms in both the County Court House and Law Enforcement Center for court proceedings. Juveniles are transported from the Taylor Avenue location as well as child support courtrooms are located here as well.  As a result of past incidents involving gunfire outside of these locations, the members of the Racine County Sheriff’s Office are committed to increasing security and enhancing public safety in and around the these facilities.

Additionally, the City of Racine Police Department will enhance crime prevention, neighborhood safety and crime reduction by purchasing equipment for the Violent Crimes Task Force investigators. The City of Racine is experiencing homicides, gun crimes and overdose cases. With advances in technology, we seek to purchase software to assist detectives in their investigations by investing in Cellebrite forensic software. Many of our violent crimes and opioid cases have been solved via cellphone forensic software.
