Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $37,697)
Problem: Lack of Escondido General Fund Budget monies limits the ability of the Escondido Police Department to fully complement our front-line law enforcement with part-time employees to handle less than critical functions to allow front-line law enforcement personnel more time to focus on high-priority calls for service.
Project Goals: Utilize two part-time employees to fully support front-line law enforcement personnel by taking reports, filing paperwork, taking photos, handling clients at the front desk of the department, impounding property and evidence, in addition to other non-critical tasks.
Project Strategy: In an effort to further the reach of services provided to the community, the Escondido Police Department has developed a program to hire part-time employees to take some of the less critical functions of our front-line law enforcement personnel, so that those personnel can focus more of their time on high-priority calls for service. The Escondido Police Department views this program as a force multiplier, as the part-time employees will be able to take reports, file paperwork, take photos, meet with community members at the Police Department, impound property, and handle an extensive number of tasks which will provide necessary service the community, and still allow front-line law enforcement personnel to handle high-priority calls for service.
Proposed grant funds would pay for two part-time employees who will be working to complement our front-line personnel. They will be working under the same supervisory scope so as to utilize resources as best needed to serve the community. Front-line law enforcement personnel will be able to respond to critical needs incidents, while the part-time support staff will be available for other tasks. This will allow for more complete accessibility to our community.
