Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $43,856)
This application is filed by the City of Bryan, Texas Police Department in conjunction with the City of College Station, Texas Police Department and the Brazos County, Texas Sheriff's Office. The Bryan Police Department will use the JAG funds for the purchase of two software programs (PIX4D and Virtual Crash 5) to enhance our ability to scan major crime scenes and accident scenes involving serious injury or death, a web-based tool (ShadowDragon SocialNet) that will allow automated searches of social networks and online activities and police bicycles. These purchases will reduce the amount of time needed to create a detailed scan of major crime scenes and accident scenes, reduce the amount of time which roads are closed (when roadways are involved), reduce the number of man hours needed and provide prosecuting agencies with a detailed and measurable scan of these scenes. The ability to conduct automated searches of social networks will enhance the ability to conduct more comprehensive investigations, locate additional suspects involved in criminal activities and reveal detailed correlations and networks. Officers using bicycles greatly enhances community engagement, offers alternative methods to reduce criminal activity and provides effective options for policing special events with large crowds. College Station Police Department will use the JAG funds to purchase a NIST Calibrated Dual Target Pole, simulated gunshot box, drag dummy, safety masks and helmets for scenario-based training, simunition conversion kit and simunition rounds. The NIST Calibrated Dual Target Pole Kit will provide needed crime scene equipment to properly document measurements on major crime scenes. The remainder of the equipment will be used to provide safe and realistic scenario-based training for active threat events. This will better prepare officers to protect the public when responding to active threat events. Brazos County Sheriff's Office will use the JAG funds for iPads with cellular connectivity. The iPads will be used in connection with FUSUS and AXON Respond for real-time situational awareness for Command and supervisors during major incidents. The iPads allow viewing live camera feeds from county businesses and residents who have chosen to share those feeds, thereby providing real time information on in progress crimes and instant recall for investigative purposes.
