The Washington County Sheriff's Office will use JAG funds to purchase Public Order Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Washington County has developed a multi-agency response by means of cooperative interagency team of specially trained law enforcement officers from various police agencies across the region. This interagency team is equipped and trained in cutting-edge techniques and tactics. This intention to increase capabilities necessitates the procurement of more specialized and costly Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect officers from a variety of evolving threats. The law enforcement officers and leadership comprising this team receive training to best prepare them for volatile and swiftly changing dynamics during public order events. Their training focuses on the latest in de-escalation, crowd psychology, less-lethal tactics, and communication strategies, all designed to minimize conflict and protect officers, the public, and critical infrastructure vital to public safety and the continuance of all area emergency services during potential crisis.
