With the City of Springfield, Ohio being the twelfth largest city in Ohio, the Springfield Police Division is committed to maintaining public and officer safety despite current economic challenges. The entire allocation of JAG funds will be committed to acquiring essential equipment designed to enhance safety and promote operational effectiveness across multiple units within the Springfield Police Division. The priority will be quickly purchasing ballistic shields and mobile fingerprint machines when funds are available. Ballistic shields supports the safety and effectiveness of officers across all major operational areas of the division while allowing them to maintain public order. Mobile fingerprint machines are necessary to assist in identifying unknown suspects, victims, and other individuals crosschecking the information against criminal records and missing persons lists. The $51,183 from the 2024 JAG Grant will be equally divided between the City of Springfield and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Springfield will receive the total grant and reimburse the Sheriff’s Office $25,591 for their share.
