Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $58,859)

The City of Charleston Police Department is seeking $58,859 in funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance FY2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program to support the CPD Patrol Safety Project.  The funds requested will enable the Charleston Police Department to purchase laptop computers for the new recruits entering the 16-week training program, mobile data terminal (MDT) computers and weapon mounts for installation in the Patrol Division’s line cars.  The MDTs will allow the officers to have access to critical information that can improve officer safety as well as increase their response time to 911 calls for service.  The weapon mounts will provide safe storage and easy access to the less-lethal weaponry assigned in each patrol vehicle.
