Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $79,795)
The County of Hawaiʻi, Office of the Prosecuting Attorney (HCPA) is charged with the duty to see that the laws are faithfully executed and enforced within the County of Hawai‘i. Violations of State and County laws, ordinances, rules and/or regulations are prosecuted on behalf of the community. Our mission is: to pursue justice with integrity and commitment. The HCPA is comprised of three physical locations, Hilo, Kailua-Kona and Waimea and have seven different units and 130 positions. Our Management Information System Services team of three supports our entire department and is responsible for ensuring that our operations remain secure, efficient and continuously advancing.
The HCPA has recently launched a new cloud-based case management system in May 2024 which will improve workflow and efficiency. This new system will push us towards a paperless environment and allow us to be flexible. Another current project is the shift towards the cloud-based M365 applications which will be integrated with our new case management system and creation of our own domain, hawaiiprosecutors.gov.
There are other technology improvements that is needed including new network switches, cable management system and server migration services. Funds from this BJA FY24 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, will help support these technology improvements that will help keep our operations secure, efficient and meet the needs of a modern-day prosecutor's office.
