Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $86,202)

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department will use JAG funds to implement a virtual-reality de-escalation training program and provide additional in-person training opportunities for patrol officers. This investment will expand the department’s limited training methods by providing instruction in a wide range of real-world scenarios. These elevated training opportunities will improve critical thinking skills and provide additional instruction in skillsets not otherwise found within the department. Additionally, JAG funds will be used to replace worn and overused Computer Voice Stress Analyzer (CVSA) devices to increase the efficiency, timeliness, and availability of services to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and the citizens of Kansas City, Kansas by ensuring reliable and thorough investigations.
