The funding for this project would be used to purchase new portable radios for officers on the Evansville Police Department.

The Evansville Police Department requests funds to purchase upgraded portable radios.  We need about 178 more radios.  The current or old radios are outdated and don't work well with the interoperability requirements. Additionally, these radios have become increasingly unreliable. Numerous times vital information is unable to be shared between officers and central dispatch due to poor radio quality. We have started buying new radios from Motorola that work much better, are modern technology and comply with the interoperability. We will use this grant to buy as many of these radios as we can to continue our upgrade.  The City of Evansville has only allotted us a small portion of funds towards this as well, but not to cover the cost of all radios for the next year or two which leaves us looking for more funding.

The radios we are wanting are to go along with the ones we have already been buying and will match these.  To meet the allotted amount, we added in the request of spare batteries and shoulder mics as well since those tend to go out or become damaged more so than the radio itself; this would be nice to have as well for an added surplus.
