Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $104,432)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, FY 2024, committed $104,432.00 to four municipalities within Middlesex County, NJ. The Perth Amboy Police Department has agreed to serve as the fiscal agent representing these municipalities. All municipalities have agreed to participate. The County of Middlesex has agreed not to request or receive monies from the awarded funds. The project goals intend to address law enforcement concerns through the provision of services directly to individuals and/or communities and by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes, and procedures.
The New Brunswick Police Department will use $20,000.00 of the funds towards the purchase of a mobile security camera trailer. This will aid in patrol, investigative, and crime prevention for the Department. $27,852.00 of the funds will be used for purchase of a security camera system storage and cameras for French St. corridor. This will assist in additional security, crime prevention, and situational awareness in the area.
The Perth Amboy Police Department will use $19,752.00 towards the purchase of two (5) Mobile Data Terminals with Docks and accessories. This purchase will be made for the Community Policing Unit to allow better communications, efficiency, and faster response to community needs.
The Edison Police Department will use $15,428.00 of these funds to purchase a Police Vehicle to be utilized in the Patrol Division. This vehicle will provide overall increased efficiency and response as well as officer safety by providing new equipment for the officers’ use.
The Township of Woodbridge will use $17,268.00 for purchase of Body Armor. This body armor will provide additional protection and safety for Police Officers.
