Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $108,276)
The Amarillo Police Department is applying for the Edward Byrne JAG FY2024 grant with a subgrantee of Potter County Sheriff’s Office. The Amarillo Police department would use the grant funds for to providing simunition (training) equipment so as to stay update on training mandates and to purchase Rapid Assault Breaching system for help in a hostage rescue environment. The Potter County Sheriff’s Office is applying for the Edward Byrne JAG FY 2024 as a subgrantee of the Amarillo Police Department. With this year’s funds, they would like to purchase an electronic citation system. This type of program gives the deputy the ability to quickly enter the information of the driver and the traffic offense while simultaneously uploading the data into the agency’s records management system. A copy of the warning or ticket is then printed off and given to the driver and the collected software data is forwarded to the appropriate court. In addition to the software, funds will cover the necessary hardware for each patrol vehicle in the fleet.
