One of the central tenets of Intelligence-led Policing is to have a strategic and targeted focus on serious and prolific criminal networks and gangs. Through the continued proper identification and interdiction of criminal networks and gangs. PSO is committed to the continous development and implementation of innovative and comprehensive investigative strategies designed to disrupt, displace and ultimately dismantle these criminal organizations and significantly impact violent crime in Pasco County. To date, PSO has identified 133 different criminal gangs with a total of 2,046 certified members and associates. Violent and gang related crime, in general, has risen in Pasco County over the past several years. Funds received through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program are utilized by the PSO to continue covering the salary and benefits for a Criminal Network/Gang Detective position to focus on identifying, disrupting, and dismantling criminal networks and gangs. The PSO will continue to advance the competencies and capabilities of the Gang Detective through training opportunities and advanced development of the program.
