Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $136,946)
This grant proposal includes proposed funding for the City of Knoxville’s Police Department (KPD) of $99,164 and Knox County Sherriff’s Office (KCSO) of $37,782, totaling a joint proposal of $136,946. This proposal is consistent with the purpose of the JAG program in countering the violent crime and threat of violent crime that has seriously eroded the quality of life for all citizens.
The proposal addresses equipment, supplies, training, and information systems for criminal justice that address the following JAG Program areas, such as “law enforcement programs and technology improvements.” Specifically, the proposal includes specialized training related to Crime Stoppers and Mounted Patrol training. Equipment includes a 15-passsenger transit van and supplies include Automated External Defibrillators (AED), Equestrian Supplies, and Real Time Information Center Cameras.
Subscribing to the motto, Duty to Protect – Honor to Serve, the KPD recognizes the importance of having the proper tools necessary to ensure public safety. Continued national civil unrest, the fluctuation of active pandemic cases, a national cry to defund the police and public distrust of law enforcement continue to plague police agencies across the county. In an effort to combat the negativity, KPD will continue to prioritize programs that embrace community engagement, ensure contemporary training practices are introduced and enhance technology and communication opportunities.
