To Protect and to Serve Our Residents by Providing our Police Department with Supports to Perform Critical Job Functions Related to Law Enforcement & Crime Suppression

The City of New Haven will use JAG funds for overtime to increase patrols to bolster the security of specific districts and for detectives to pursue investigations. Funds will also be used to purchase advertising and other contractual services to recruit officers to fill the staffing shortage; to purchase technology, training aids to assist in modernizing our law enforcement capabilities and to train them for real life situations. Overall the department needs to purchase equipment, supplies, and other contractual services for our staff to be prepared to do their jobs safely and officially. Finally, in order to comply with federal, state and local unfunded mandates and to comply with state standarads of community policing, JAG funds will be used to support our departmental need to purchase up-to-date equipment to store and to collect evidence; to retain and to maintain incident reports; and to invest in our recruitment efforts to recruit staff which will assist the City in competitively attracting officers from applicant pools locally and across the United States of America.
