Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $159,189)
Genesee County has both a violent crime rate and property crime rate well above National and State averages. Property values in Genesee County have decreased dramatically over the past decade, negatively effecting revenue. Only recently have property values started to increase. Public safety agencies have been forced to make reductions in staff and services and are striving to return to manpower levels that were seen before reduction in revenues after the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, these agencies are struggling to find qualified candidates willing to enter this profession. The municipalities receiving 2024 JAG funding will utilize FY 2024 JAG funds for the following; to purchase and deploy a range of needed supplies including police vehicles, tactical uniforms, in-car video systems, criminal investigation/crime analysis software, patrol vehicle equipment, computer hardware, other traditional police equipment and advanced criminal justice training. Collectively, these strategies meet unfunded needs and will serve to reduce area crime and violence.
