Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $163,510)
The City of St. Petersburg will utilize its allocation to sustain and continue several SPPD crime prevention and law enforcement initiatives. JAG funding will enable overtime for police officers to concentrate on specific issues at designated geographic and temporal points within the City more effectively. Additionally, funds will be used to sustain and supplement prevention programs such as the Community Resource Centers, select and targeted social media initiatives, the use of rental vehicles for special investigations, and volunteer programs supported by the department.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office will purchase rifle-rated ballistic shields using JAG funds. The shields will be issued to identified supervisors and Patrol, Investigative, and Judicial Operations Bureaus members. Currently, most of the operational ballistic shields within the agency are rated at Level IIIA (138 out of 147), which does not offer our members rifle round protection.
