Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $229,450)
The City of Miami will allocate $229,450 in JAG funds to implement the Planning, Evaluation, and Technology Improvement Program. This initiative will advance the Miami Police Department’s (MPD) objective of upgrading outdated equipment and supplies, with $200,450 dedicated to replacing furniture in the emergency dispatch unit to improve staff support and task efficiency. Additionally, $29,000 will be allocated to provide overtime pay for the Human Trafficking Unit.
The current furniture has surpassed it’s expected lifespan. The furniture is prone to damage and wear, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries. MPD is working to combat all significant safety concerns that must be addressed promptly. Investing in ergonomic furniture like desks and chairs tailored to the demands of a 24/7 emergency response environment will not only mitigate safety risks but also enhance employee comfort and productivity, contributing to maintaining the high standards of service expected from a 9-1-1 center.
Human trafficking cases within the City of Miami's jurisdiction are investigated by the Human Trafficking Task Force, based out of the State Attorney’s Office. MPD assigns investigators to this task force on both a full-time and part-time basis, collaborating with the State Attorney’s Office and investigators from neighboring jurisdictions. This work often requires extra hours and attention to best serve the City of Miami and ensuring safety for those affected or threatened by the human trafficking epidemic.
