Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $254,662)

The disparate jurisdictions of the City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County, Colorado, will use JAG funds for continued employment and needed equipment purchases. Specifically, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) will use JAG funds to continue employment of three CSPD civilian employee positions that have been JAG funded and contribute to the reduction of violent crime. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) will purchase replacement simunition guns used by recruits in its training academy which will more closely resemble active service weapons. They will also purchase upright freezers to better preserve evidence collected from crime scenes than the chest freezers currently being used, and which will contribute more space to store evidence properly, maintaining the integrity of evidence to be used as part of a fair, transparent justice system.
