Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $354,031)
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) is seeking funding under the BJA FY 24 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program to support the Investigation and Support Bureau (ISB). The Investigation & Support Bureau (ISB) is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations into crimes committed against persons or property within the City of New Orleans, particularly those requiring specialized expertise or a centralized investigative approach. The ISB’s mission is to deliver high-quality, thorough, and factual investigations that result in arrests and successful prosecutions of individuals who target law-abiding citizens. The Bureau is composed of three divisions: Crime Lab & Evidence Division, Criminal Investigative Division, and the Specialized Investigations Division.
If awarded, the grant will have a significant impact on the NOPD’s Special Victims Division, particularly the Domestic Violence Unit, as well as the Juvenile Intake section. The funds will be used exclusively to upgrade essential supplies and equipment, transforming the Domestic Violence Unit into a fully mobile and teaching-capable division. This will enhance the unit’s ability to conduct field investigations, improve real-time training for personnel, and streamline case management. Additionally, the Juvenile Intake section will benefit from new equipment and furniture, improving the efficiency of operations and providing a more supportive environment for handling juvenile cases. These upgrades will lead to improved documentation, more efficient case resolutions, and better service delivery to the community. These outcomes will not only improve the operational efficiency of the Domestic Violence Unit but also bolster the broader mission of the NOPD in addressing domestic violence and supporting victims in a more timely and effective manner.
