Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $383,673)
Orange County Board of County Commissioners (Grantee) will utilize the JAG Local Solicitation award to support a variety of law enforcement and prevention-related initiatives that will enhance essential county services while increasing public safety, crime prevention and provide education in Orange County. The projects include: 1) Ninth Judicial Circuit Court will hire one full-time person with expertise in the injunction intake process to provide hands-on ministerial assistance to petitioners filing injunctions for protection, 2) The Children Safety Village will conduct an education program called: Program Presentation Fees for Child Safety. This program will give children the opportunity to learn about safety-related programs such as gun safety, dangerous-person awareness, 9-1-1 for kids and internet safety. 3) The Juvenile Assessment Center will install a monitor its Booking Unit and develop a Youth Admission Queue Tracker System. The system is designed to streamline the booking process and ensure compliance with Florida Statues regarding the maximum allowable detention time for juveniles. The system will integrate with existing admission processes such as JACS and ICJIS databases. 4) The Orange County Office of Emergency Management will provide an Active Violence Training and Exercise Project (AVTEP) that will consist of a series of training courses offered to Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue, EMS, and First Responders to coincide with a full-scale, multi-jurisdiction exercise. 5) Orange County Sheriff's Office will purchase SWAT Training Facility Classroom and Defensive Tactics Mats for the Defensive Tactic area, and additional mats for the vehicle training area. Tablets and chairs will also be purchased for the classroom to work on high-risk/high-liability training for new recruits, as well as SWAT operators 6) Corrections Department will purchase a Trauma Training simulator that will provide more in-depth training to officers performing critical life-saving tasks while training in nearly any environment or weather condition. 7) Orange County Fire Rescue will purchase mass-casualty interoperability Radio Kits that will close any gaps in communications or operational coordination due to absence of interoperability between agencies during any multi-jurisdictional/agency incident.
