Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $395,746)
The City of Boston intends to utilize JAG funds to provide for continuation of several crucial initiatives, including: Retaining critical civilian positions, Community Policing as it relates to technology initiatives, Violence and Domestic Violence, and Intervention Programs.
The main goals of this funding are to: Reduce crime across City of Boston; Employ data-driven, collaborative, community-oriented approaches to crime prevention, intervention and enforcement; and Move the department forward in the areas of information sharing and technology.
We will achieve our goals through the following strategies:
Providing support and analysis to DV advocates that provide advocacy to Domestic Violence (DV) victims at the district level. Culturally sensitive DV advocates provide support to victims in navigating the criminal justice system and ensure they receive necessary services. JAG funds will be utilized to support one full-time Domestic Violence Management Analyst. The analyst provides data collection and analysis specific to domestic violence incidents, identification and tracking of violent repeat offenders, as well as valuable policy and research projects for the Family Justice Division.
Providing ongoing research, development and implementation of technology solutions. The Technology Initiatives Coordinator, who reports to the Manager of Applications Development, under the Bureau of Administration and Technology, will play a critical role in helping the BPD transition from UCR to NIBRS reporting. Other roles include project management and coordination of new applications and technology initiatives, support functions for applications used throughout the department for the Information Technology Division, analysis of current business practices in order to recommend and implement technology solutions, and support provision to systems such as but not limited to COPLINK, TRACE, Case Management, Id/Imaging, and Incident Tracking System.
Finally, JAG funds will also be used to support one full-time a Hub n COR Coordinator, to help take this highly successful intervention program to scale throughout the City of Boston. Due to the early success of this model in Jamaica Plain and East Boston, the COB/BPD, City Counselors, and MassHousing have been bringing The Hub Model to scale in other Boston neighborhoods. Thus far, the model has already been expanded to the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mass & Cass.
