Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $715,513)

To address precipitous increases in violent crime in Louisville, Kentucky (a population of over 620,000), and to leverage technological advancements, the Louisville Metro Police Department responds to the JAG FY2024 solicitation and proposes a project to replace 45 mobile data terminal units (MDT), including docking systems, driver’s license scanners, tablets, and related installation equipment. MDT units facing obsolescence will be replaced, addressing challenges associated with processor and software limitations. Replacements ensure officer safety and efficiency by providing access to real-time crime information and enhancing internal communication between officers and dispatch. The most up-to-date MDT units also provide a mechanism for resource optimization and integration with other systems. Capabilities offered through MDT technology increase officer efficiency and reduce delays in response times. Such information also reduces radio traffic and provides more open airtime for officers to respond to emergency calls and situations, ensuring enhanced public safety and building trust as it relates to law enforcement’s timely responses. Estimated project costs are $715,500.
