FY24 National Sexual Assault Kit Initiative

The Division of Criminal Justice, Division of Violence Intervention and Victim Assistance, and Office of Justice Data, within the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, are seeking grant funding to continue into the next phase of the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative project.

Funds requested under the FY24 grant program would be budgeted primarily for additional sexual assault kit testing and associated personnel costs. Funds would be allocated to increase the project manager position to full time as well as contract with case analysts who would focus on verifying the status of kits submitted to the lab and gathering information on older kits not available through existing digital information systems. An additional position would be introduced through the award to provide ongoing technical support to end users of the statewide sexual assault kits tracking system.

 New Jersey is committed to continued collaboration with stakeholders such as prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, forensic laboratories, victim advocacy agencies, healthcare providers, and victims and survivors to optimize the handling of sexual assault kits and ensuring that the needs of all involved, particularly victims, are met.
