Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $440,000)
The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a network of physical devices embedded with sensors, software, and technologies designed to exchange data over the internet. Average citizens may not be aware of the security or data privacy implications. Additionally, many organizations are not necessarily aware of the large number of IoT devices they are already using and how IoT devices may affect cybersecurity and privacy risks differently than conventional IT devices. The proliferation of IoT devices presents new opportunities for criminal exploitation and underscores the importance of community awareness measures to mitigate risks and protect against cybercrime. Fox Valley Technical College plans to utilize this funding to provide high-quality, cost-effective training and technical assistance in accordance with the goals of the program. To reach the broadest audience possible, trainings will be delivered in both classroom and online modalities, allowing for greater access especially for those from rural, tribal, underserved, marginalized and adversely-affected communities.
