The Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians (Tribe) will implement the Coyote Valley Afterschool Health and Wellness Program. The program will address the Tribe’s juvenile crime and truancy issues by providing the youth fitness and wellness classes to promote healthy and well-rounded lifestyles. The Afterschool Program will employ a Health and Fitness Coordinator. Educated in health and fitness, they will provide and coordinate classes for the youth of the Tribe. The Coordinator will serve as an educator and as a mentor for youth, and the Afterschool Program will be conducted in a culturally sensitive manner. The expected result is a decrease in juvenile delinquency, as well as an overall increase in juvenile mental and physical health. The Tribe will conduct regular outreach and form important partnerships with outside agencies, establishing relationships with key service providers, to increase the success and sustainability of each Purpose Area project.
