Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $400,000)

Red Lake of Band Chippewa Indians proposes to focus Red Lake Nation’s Tribal Courts expansion on incorporating tribal elders, traditional healers, and other culturally appropriate resources to promote participants’ healing and reintegration into the tribal community. Red Lake desires to heal their community by working to develop services that are culturally appropriate with the desired result of healing first. This will help their youth become law abiding citizens grounded in culture and ready to serve and contribute positively to the community.  The need for a Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court increased over the last four years due to the opioid crisis as well. The goals and objectives will provide Red Lake families with resources and strategies to strengthen self-sufficiency and will increase a restored sense of health and well-being, as well as the shared experience of participating in culture and restorative practices.
