Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $400,000)

The Karuk Tribe will expand on current MOUs, as appropriate and work with tribal programs, business and community leaders, and others, as available, to implement a comprehensive program that supports: the use of a team approach to achieve the physical and spiritual healing of the individual participant; Native Nation building and the well-being of the community; and effective Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court planning, implementation, and operation. In addition to internal changes within tribal operations that improve communication and enhance a comprehensive, multidisciplinary case management approach, relationships between the tribe, county and state law enforcement and court systems are expected to be enhanced. Success for the youth will be determined by active participation in the plan development and goal or objective attainment. The increased involvement of local businesses and community members will be a sign of success in collaboration and demonstrate that the activities are strengthening the community. The development of policies and procedures will provide a clear process under which the Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court activities will operate, ensure consistency in implementation, and provide the community with information to better understand the program and encourage increased participation by the community.
