Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $400,000)

The Native Village of Kongiganak will establish a Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court for the Tribe. The existing Tribal Court has been operational for over 30 years and has operated successfully as a restorative justice court system which echoes the traditions and cultures of the Tribe. The project proposes staffing, including a program director, coordinator, a licensed psychologist, training for volunteers of the healing circles for the Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court, and two consulting firms: one for direct services and one for development of policies, procedures and related tribal codes. Overall, the impact to youth will be to prevent drug use, including heroin, which is a popular drug in the region, methamphetamine, and prescription pill misuse of youth in the region.
