Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $496,225)
The Karuk Tribe will expand on current MOUs, as appropriate, and will work with tribal and community leaders, business owners, educators, college students, local artists, and others, as available, to implement a comprehensive program that offers the following: mentoring; dropout prevention and after school programs; culture camps and recreational activities; and access to educational programs. Through these efforts, the collaborating partners will promote the protective factors defined by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Children’s Bureau, Child Welfare Information Gateway as “nurturing and attachment, knowledge of parenting and of child and youth development, parental resilience, social connections, concrete supports for parents, and social and emotional competence of children.” These efforts are also expected to enhance the relationships between the tribe and area schools, business owners, community members and others within the three Council Districts. The program will increase educational opportunities and support services available to assist youth in achieving their full potential.
