Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $400,000)
The Masali (“Beginning to heal”) project will successfully engage First American juvenile defendants, ages 12 to 20, facing nonviolent offenses, with a newly established Juvenile Tribal Healing to Wellness Court in the Chickasaw Nation (CN). Masali will engage multiple CN departments to build a seamless network of programs and services to operate the program safely and effectively. By developing the Masali program, the CN anticipates a reduction in juvenile substance use and detention rates while improving access to culturally rooted and recovery-oriented programming to increase sobriety rates, strengthen family relationships, and improve the overall health and wellness for at-risk youth.
