Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $99,948)

The Northern Cheyenne Tribe will develop a strategic plan to improve and/or enhance its Tribal juvenile justice systems that may include prevention, intervention, and treatment programs and services for youth based on the needs and solutions generated by stakeholders involved in the development of the plan. The project will guide efforts to prevent and reduce youth delinquency and strengthen a fair and beneficial juvenile justice system responsible for Tribal youth under the age of 21 in the community. Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats will be developed to inform the needs and strategies that will serve to strengthen the juvenile justice system to ensure youth have comprehensive services to prevent juvenile delinquency. A needs assessment and strategic planning activities will be conducted to address needs in the juvenile justice system, focusing on trauma-informed and culturally competent care. Services and activities will be determined based on the needs assessment and recommendations generated by stakeholders (including youth) for the strategic plan that will be developed as a result of this project.
