Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $99,439)
The Nooksack Tribe’s youth continue to suffer poor outcomes in school and are too often involved in the justice system. Due to a constellation of problems from early childhood to the teen and early adult years, the effects are harming the well-being of the Nooksack Tribe’s children. This year-long project will involve hiring a full-time (80 percent) project manager to work under the supervision of the Director of Youth and Family Services/Victims of Crime program. The goal is to develop a strong team of leaders, community members, elders, youth, and a director to work with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention technical assistance providers. The team will assess current issues affecting youth, assess current programming, identify gaps and strategies that can be developed to address these problems, prioritize the prevention and interventions identified, and develop a program plan for the ones found to be most critical.
