Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $76,000)

This initiative is designed to address critical challenges facing Tribal youth, including youth delinquency, substance abuse, and disengagement from education and cultural practices. Zuni’s community recognizes the urgent need to provide their youth with comprehensive support systems that not only address immediate issues but also foster long-term resilience and well-being. The proposed project will implement a series of primary activities, including the development of a comprehensive Tribal Youth Plan, facilitated by a professional firm experienced in community engagement and strategic planning. The initiative will host community meetings to ensure broad stakeholder input in the planning process, conduct interdepartmental interviews and needs assessments to identify specific youth needs and available resources, and ultimately prepare for the implementation of targeted programs designed to enhance youth wellness and community engagement. Products and deliverables of this project include a detailed strategic plan outlining evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies, educational and vocational training programs, mental health and substance abuse services, and cultural engagement activities. These programs are specifically designed to strengthen the social, emotional, and cultural foundations of Zuni’s Tribal youth, empowering them to lead healthy, productive lives.
