2021 Children's Justice Act Partnerships for Indian Communities Yurok Tribe of the Yurok Reservation

The Yurok Tribe of the Yurok Reservation is a federally recognized tribe located in Del Norte County, California. With this funding, Yurok Tribal Court will continue the services of the Yurok Child Protection Team (the “Program”) to improve the overall handling of child abuse and neglect cases within the Tribal Court and reduce the harm experienced by children and improve their overall outcomes. The Tribe will continue the services of a full-time Child Specialist Social Worker, have ongoing multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and update policies, protocols, and processes in responding to child abuse, neglect, and exploitation on the Yurok Reservation. The Program will increase the number of dedicated child protection staff by having a Social Worker dedicated to Tribal Court cases, increase necessary training for all staff involved including child forensic interviewing, and provide emergency assistance for child victims and their families such as support groups and counseling.
