Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $200,000)
This award is made under the FY 2006 Tribal Courts Assistance Program and it supports the development, implementation, enhancement, and continuing operation of tribal justice systems. Allowable elements under the program may include, but are not limited to: establishing a core structure for a tribal court, improving case management, training court personnel, acquiring additional equipment and/or software, enhancing prosecution and indigent defense, supporting probation diversion and alternative sentencing programs, accessing services, focusing on juvenile services and multi disciplinary protocols for child physical and sexual abuse, and structuring intertribal or tribal appellate systems.
The goal of the Yavapai-Prescott Tribal Assistance Project is to enhance the continuing operations of the Yavapi-Prescott Indian Tribal Court. Two objectives that propose significant enhancements to the Tribal Court will be to enhance the prosecution and defense in the Tribal Court System by offering and providing effective public defender services for arrested suspects involved in the Tribal Court System.
They also plan to design services and multi disciplinary protocols for juvenile victims of physical and sexual abuse involved in the children's welfare cases within the Tribal Court System. They will provide effective Court Appointed Special Advocate services, oversee the services and needs of each child involved in the Tribal Court system and provide effective Guardian ad Litem services, appointed by the Court to survey the specific legal services of each child involved in the Tribal Court system and provide effective Guardian ad Litem services appointed by the court and to examine the specific legal services of each child involved in the Tribal Court System.
