Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $999,877)

Justice Planners International (JPI) will continue to provide technical assistance to tribal correctional facilities under the Native American and Alaskan Native Technical Assistance Project (NAATAP). The purpose of NAATAP is to provide assistance to each tribe and native village through the facility development process, from project initiation through planning, design, bidding, construction, and through activation. The technical assistance is designed to help ensure that each new facility is: supportive of the tribe's and native village's values and objectives; responsive to the tribe's needs; appropriate for the intended populations and programs; within budget; staff- and cost-efficient to operate; safe and secure; and, consistent with current knowledge and standards regarding operations, programs, and design.
