Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $200,000)
The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.
The Calhoun County Drug Treatment Court Program (CCDTC) will use the funds to enhance their existing drug court structure. The goal of the program is to provide additional drug treatment for male and female non-violent, substance-abusing offenders in Calhoun County. Specific enhancements to the drug court will include: sustaining the existing drug court personnel and program activities; hiring an additional gender specific case manager; and providing Moral Recognation Therapy training for the counselors. These enhancements will allow the drug court to treat more participants and hopefully, improve the court's effectiveness.
