Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $174,623)
The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.
The County of Peoria will use the grant funds to enhance their current drug court program. The proposed enhancements will improve the court's graduation rate and decrease the amount of time required to complete the program. Individuals entering the court typically present a wide range of issues, co-occurring mental conditions, and a substance use disorder. Specific enhancements to combat these issues will include: improving the assessment protocol; developing an integrated database; improving treatment; adding a community-based case manager; adding a job-education club and trauma support group; and integrating community stakeholders in the drug court.
