Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $75,000)

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (DAFLA) will use these funds to support the Workers Outreach Rights Knowledge (WORK) project, which aims to increase the understanding and retention of the information taught at adult schools, occupational centers, day labor sites, community-based organizations, faith-based centers, and some small employers. Funding will be used to pay for the salaries, benefits and indirect costs of two .5 FTE attorneys. These attorneys will: make presentations to immigrant workers and employers; implement a media campaign in underserved immigrant communities to inform the public about anti-discrimination law; conduct workshops with staff; cooperate on interventions on behalf of victimized workers; and, train other advocates in the anti-discrimination protections afforded by the Immigration and Nationality Act.
