Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $431,048)
The Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) program ensures victims of crime receive accurate and timely information regarding the status of offenders and events related to the case. Through SAVIN, victims are able to participate in the judicial process and make sound decisions to protect themselves from further victimization while maintaining total anonymity. This information-sharing capability is also available to courts, corrections, and law enforcement officials.
The County Sheriffs of Colorado will utilize fiscal year 2007 SAVIN Category I funding to implement a state-wide victim notification system comprised of a near real-time data collection network and central data processing facility that will provide offender information to victims through a public website and a toll-free telephone number. A governance committee, comprised of multiple state agencies and a crime victim, will be formed in order to create policy and guide programmatic operations. It is anticipated that at the conclusion of this program, approximately 85 percent of Colorado victims will receive notification services through the state's SAVIN network.
