Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $1,200,000)

The Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) program ensures victims of crime receive accurate and timely information regarding the status of offenders and events related to the case. Through SAVIN, victims are able to participate in the judicial process and make sound decisions to protect themselves from further victimization while maintaining total anonymity. This information-sharing capability is also available to courts, corrections, and law enforcement officials.

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections will utilize SAVIN funding to automate current victim notification processes, and link existing multiple agency systems in order to provide a single gateway for offender information as the offender moves through the various components of the court system, county jails, prisons, probation and parole, or the state mental health system. This one-stop, automated access point will minimize redundant efforts, fill gaps in the overall victim service delivery system, and reduce chances of human error, thus promoting victim safety and security.
