The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The Program supports the following activities:
adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.
The Lummi Nation Tribal Court will use the Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 Drug Court Enhancement grant to fund specialized training for the Lummi Nation Tribe Adult Drug Court Team. The training will provide team members with necessary skills to identify symptoms and structure individualized treatment plans for meth users. The program will provide a culture and treatment centered justice system which will hold substance abusing offenders accountable; identify and change participant risk factors; and integrate essential court staff and substance abuse treatment service providers into the judicial process.
