The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The Program supports the following activities:
adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.

The County of Benton will use the Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 Single Jurisdiction Drug Court Enhancement grant to fund the 19th Judicial District West Adult Drug Court program.

The FY 2008 Drug Court grant will provide financial support for the hire of a full-time Drug Court Counselor and a full-time Drug Court Staff Assistant. The Drug Court Counselor will conduct orientation for non-violent drug offenders accepted into the program, develop individual drug treatment plans, and track the progress of program participants. The Drug Court Staff Assistant will devote 100% of their time to case management. The project goals are to expand the number of clients served by 50%, provide more intensive treatment, create a family education component, provide mental health counseling, improve community awareness, develop an outcome evaluation, and provide National Association of Drug Court Professionals training for the drug court team.
