Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $111,794)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Alabama District Attorneys Office will implement the Data Protection Program. They will purchase a secure system capable of serving the communication and off-site data storage needs for the Alabama District Attorneys sensitive criminal information.
The goal of the program is to: (1) Provide all district attorneys and their 900 employees with a mechanism for secure communication with other law enforcement agencies; (2) Provide support and communication for disaster planning; (3) Enable immediate problem solving through secure communication with other Law Enforcement agencies; and (4) Establish secure and adequate maintenance of criminal cases.
