The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Chrysalis Center will support its Workforce Training for Ex-Offenders Program. They will enhance local offender reentry systems by providing ex-offenders with the resources and skills to successfully re-enter the workforce. Clients in the program will have access to a wide range of classes and services designed to improve job search skills, self-confidence and employability. Ex-offender clients will also have the opportunity to participate in a transitional employment program, Chrysalis Enterprises, where they build on-the-job skills which then can be leveraged to secure their next job. The Chrysalis Center staff will focus on workforce training and skills development. They will provide services including job preparation classes, case management, interview preparation, job retention support, and overall efforts to reduce client employment barriers.
