The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.
The Tarleton State University (Tarleton) will improve rural law enforcement agencies' crime fighting capabilities by providing them with access to an information sharing database. Law enforcement agencies within a thirty county area in north and central Texas will share information electronically via their records management systems (RMS). Tarleton will provide the database, training, and administrative assistance at no cost to the agencies. They will also provide financial assistance for the cost of RMS solutions to agencies who cannot afford to purchase an RMS or contract with a provider, or whose RMS is incapable of electronic data sharing. Participating agencies will be provided with access to a secure database that includes information sharing and sophisticated crime analysis software.
