Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $625,000)

The Integrated Justice Information Sharing (IJIS) Institute will provide training and technical assistance to support the Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) Program. SAVIN is an automated system designed to deliver basic victim notification regarding the status of offenders. The Institute will: (1) Enhance the published SAVIN Guidelines & Standards document and create additional SAVIN resource materials; (2) Continue the management of the SAVIN Program Advisory Committee where additional activities will include contribution to a training and technical assistance plan; (3) Facilitate SAVIN program outreach, training, and coordination to the field to include (A) outreach to states without programs, (B) training built upon the premise of sharing promising practices and information across states; and, (C) creation of a practitioner information sharing community; and, (D) development of a nationwide capacity to service victims via a single online access point and a single toll free phone number.

SAVIN systems increase public safety and improve criminal justice decisions by ensuring victims are provided timely and accurate information about the status of an offender from the point of arrest and incarceration through disposition, release, and community supervision.
