Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $447,174)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The city of Casper will establish a professional training center for personnel of police departments and fire and emergency medical service departments in Natrona County, Wyoming. This center will facilitate ongoing training to support the ability of individuals to respond to calls for service and emergency situations. The city of Casper will construct a flexible classroom, install a computer network, purchase and install classroom furniture, and provide administrative oversight through the creation of a Career Training Office. They will cooperate and collaborate with the Joint Law Enforcement Training Program which is comprised of the Casper Police Department, Natrona County Sheriff's Office, Mills Police Department, Evansville Police Department, Airport Crash Fire and Rescue, and the Midwest Police Department.
