Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $212,408)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Town of Eureka will use funds to increase the security of the Town Hall, police station, and dispatch center. They will purchase stronger doors, a camera security system, back-up generators and a buzzer system for the back door. They will also purchase cameras, computers, office furniture, a police car, firearms, body armor, and forensic equipment. The Town of Eureka will also provide tactical training for two officers.
